About
May Chen is a photographer, editor and visual artist from Tel Aviv, with a BFA in Fine Arts from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem.
My photography is about the body, intimacy and Wabi-Sabi: the belief that beauty can be found in everything, including what is imperfect, unexpected or unpolished. With color, light and backdrops I create artistic, emotional studio images, and in every shoot I look for the way to turn the person in front of me into a work of art.
But for me, photography is much more than the final result. The shoot itself is an experience: empowering, freeing, different from everyday life. A moment to pause, let go of the way we usually see ourselves, and look at ourselves from a new angle.
During the shoot we play with light, color, movement, body and expression. I like to take my time, listen, guide, and discover together the different sides of whoever is in front of me. Sometimes it's soft and quiet, sometimes bold and sensual, but always personal.
I want shooting with me to feel like a place where you can be exactly who you are, with no pressure to be anything else. A place to let go, try, play, be bold, gentle, sensual, or simply ourselves.
And to me, the most beautiful moment comes at the end, when you look at the photos and see yourself a little differently.

- Photos where you can be identified are published only with your explicit consent, given in advance.
- You choose: approve identifiable images, approve only images where you can't be identified, or approve no identifiable images at all.
- Approving one image doesn't approve the rest. Where needed, you'll see anything intended for publication before it goes out.
- Images where you can't be identified, such as partial body shots or with your face hidden, may be used for the portfolio and other artistic and professional purposes.
